I Wrote 50,000 Words!

Yes everyone, I did it! I wrote a 50,000 word novel in 27 days! Yesterday I had written my daily minimum and thought to myself "Why not write 500 more words? Maybe I can have my novel done before Thanksgiving if I work really hard." I didn't really believe that I would have it done before Thanksgiving, but as it turns out I did.

After I had written 500 more words yesterday I was like "why not try and hit tomorrow's par?" And I did. The next thing I knew I had written almost 7,000 words instead of the minimum of 1,667.

This morning I woke up early and had only a little over 2,000 left to write until I hit 50,000 and I knew I had it in the bag. I finished writing early this morning and I still can't believe that I wrote that much and still have a few days to spare!

When I started I thought I would be crawling to the finish since I've never written anywhere near this amount before. Turns out it's not really that hard. The hardest part is just sitting down and writing even when you don't know what to write. But I guess that's all part of being a writer.

To anyone else out there who hasn't finished their novels yet, good luck!

NaNoWriMo Update

When NaNoWriMo started I was really excited and slightly intimidated. I've never written anything near 50,000 words in a novel in any amount of time. But because I like a challenge and want to become a better writer, I decided to do it anyways. And now I'm on day 21 with 35,072 words written. For the first time since I started I'm feeling really good and I really think I'm going to make it!

My days this month have been going something like this. Wake up, set up my laptop at the dining room table next to my sisters, make hot chocolate, put my ear buds in and crank the music up, and write. And write, and write. And someday's just stare at the screen and hope words will come into my mind for me to type.

Last week I was having some writers block and just didn't know what to write. Some how I made it through the week with hitting par everyday. Until the weekend came. During the weekend I didn't want to write anything and I ended up writing only about 900 words during the whole weekend instead of the 3,200 I should have written. Instead I spent my time working on a costume mock up and reading. Which I enjoyed immensely since I haven't have much time for either one this month.

This week I had to play catch up, and yesterday I finally did catch up and I'm back on track. Now I've also got the plot moving along and I'm not having writers block, which I am very thankful for! I'm really glad I plotted most of the story line last month, otherwise I would be completely lost.

But even though I did plot out my story last month, I didn't plot the third part out as well as I wished I could have. I mostly had the details needed for the mystery to be solved, but other than that there wasn't much. I've been keeping the index cards I wrote them on in a box, and whenever I don't know what to write I go to that box which I've been calling my "Plot Box". It's been very, very helpful!

There's only 9 days left until I will (hopefully) be able to say I've written a novel! And in a month none the less!

Seed Stitch Cowl

I was out shopping for yarn for Christmas gifts and decided to get this yarn for myself because I liked the color so much. I've been wanting to make a seed stitch cowl since I came across a picture of one on Pinterest a long time ago. I just never had any yarn in a color that I thought it would look good in. So when I bought this yarn I decided to finally make that cowl!

When I started I looked for a pattern but just decided on making my own because it was simpler that way. I'm going to write up a pattern for it as soon as it's finished. I've been working on it for few days and it's close to complete. I've been busy with NaNo this month so I haven't been able to work on it as much as I would've liked to, but it's still going quickly.

NaNoWriMo has Begun!

Early last month I got an idea for a story, then I remembered that NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) was in November so I decided to give it go. I mean, how hard could it be to write 50,000 words in a month right? Okay, maybe that wasn't exactly what I was thinking. I was actually thinking something more along the lines of  "Oh boy, 50,000 words in a month? Am I crazy for thinking I can do this? Maybe I'll be able to write 10 or 15 thousand...."

Well, I decided to do it anyways and I began planning my story and coming up with characters. I came up with a whole plot and outlined most of the story. I used this huge old whiteboard we had for my story board. I wrote everything down on index cards then taped them up and I could add, remove, or move them to wherever I needed them to be. It ended up working really well and helped a lot with plotting.

Now it's the second day, and I think I might be able to pull this off! Basically my goal is to write at least 1,667 words a day. If I do at least that much I'll finish just in time. So far I've got a little over 3,000 words written and I'm feeling good!
