A Couple of Shorts

Last weekend we had some friends over, and since it was so nice out we decided to go do something outside. After trekking through the forest next to our house, we decided it would be fun to turn jokes into little shorts.

So, without further ado, here you go.

And this last video is a behind the scenes/bloopers video.

"A Blossom Fell"

We have this tree in our backyard that blooms with these really pretty white flowers every Spring. We call it the 'Popcorn Tree' because from inside out house it looks like popcorn instead of blossoms. It's a really pretty tree but after a few weeks the petals fall off, leaving the ground white.

But I like to go out and take pictures of it every year. In a few years I'm going to be overloaded with pictures of it. :D

Current Novels

I've been spending a lot of time lately working on my novels. I've been editing my novel from NaNoWriMo, which has had a lot of facepalm moments. I know I was on a time crunch to write 50,000 in 30 days, but seriously? Some of it's been really, really awful.

But still, I learned a lot on that novel. I learn how to sit down and actually write even if I what I write is horrible. I learned to not go back and edit, otherwise I'll never move on.

But I've started another novel which I have a goal of writing 40,000 words for by April 14th. I might change the end date though because I haven't plotted the whole thing out yet. I'm working on that now, but I needed to get started.

I wrote the prologue for it which ended up being a bit longer than I had expected. It was 2.5 pages long which might not seem that long, but I had expected it to be only 1 page long.

I also finished reading the first book in the Hand of Thrawn duology by Timothy Zahn, Specter of the Past. It. Was. Amazing. I started the second book immediately, which is twice as long (694 pages). I can't wait to finish it! Zahns writing is just spectacular. I like to call him the Emperor of Star Wars novels. :)

It takes time

I saw this quote on someone elses blog today and I just relate with it so much. I decided I would put it on a picture I took last night of the sunset.

I've been through this with so many things. There are times when I'm so inspired by something created by someone else and I want to go and recreate what they made even though I'm unfamiliar with whatever art they used to do it. A good example with me is costuming.

I wrote a post not long ago about my costuming journey and how I knew what I wanted to make only I didn't have the skills to do so. I wanted to just rush in and start making dresses and elaborate costumes even though I only knew the basics. I've been working for years on my sewing now and I'm by no means a professional, but I know what I'm doing and I can make those costumes I always wanted. But it took time to learn even thought I wanted to rush right in and take up a big project.

I know its hard to do this, but you have to slow down and take your time. It's not going to happen overnight, but as long as you keep practicing, even if its just a little bit everyday over even once a week, it's okay because you're doing what you can. And then that one day when you finally reach the goal that got you started in the first place, it will be wonderful. You won't regret the fact that it took so long, you will be glad that you took your time instead of rushing in and getting frustrated when it didn't turn out the way you planned. I know this from experience.

So don't worry, you'll get there soon. Until then, keep going.

Vintage Fashion Show

Saturday I got to be in another vintage fashion show. This show was only showing clothes from the 1940's, so I was able to do my hair and makeup as close to 40's as I could manage. Most of the other shows start with dresses from the early 1900's and sometimes even the late 1800's and go through the 50's and 60's. And since I usually end up wearing some of the oldest dresses and then some from later on in the decade, I can't usually do period specific makeup. But since yesterday's show was 40's only I got to have a little fun by wearing some red lipstick.

Also, I got to wear 3 outfits in the show instead of only 2 like I always have before. I started out wearing a Coast Guards uniform and my mom was wearing a Navy Nurses uniform.

My and my mom.

Next I wore an evening gown.

And then a school girls outfit. I've worn this one a few times before, but this was definitely my favorite time wearing.

I'll be posting more pictures as soon as I get them, which probably won't be for a couple of weeks at least.
